This disbound lot includes the title page and 33 (of 52) maps and plates from the atlas volume to a French edition of Hawkesworth's Voyages Around the World Undertaken by the Order of His Present Majesty... Hawkesworth's work was a compilation of the voyages of Commodore Byron, Captain Wallis, Captain Carteret, and Captain Cook. The English edition was first published in 1773, and was followed by editions in French and German. There are 13 maps in this lot, which were engraved by Bernard, and primarily feature islands in the South Pacific Ocean:

There are 20 plates in the lot, which depict people and places within French Polynesia (13 plates), New Zealand (4 plates), Australia (1 plate), Patagonia (1 plate), and Tierra del Fuego (1 plate). The plate from Australia depicts a kangaroo.

Condition: B+

Crisp impressions, many folding, with light offsetting, occasional soiling, and foxing that is mostly confined to the margins. The title page is toned with some soiling.
