Fine copper engraving of the north pole. Jansson's map does not follow Mercator, but used the knowledge of the many recent voyages of explorations that attempted to locate a northern route to Asia. Several fictitious islands in the North Atlantic appear, including Frisland. Strapwork title cartouche. German text on verso. Ref: Burden #222. Minor printer's crease, else very fine.
