Beautiful AAF escape chart, printed on synthetic silk cloth, in mint condition. These extremely detailed aeronautical charts were issued to pilots during WWII to be worn as neck kerchiefs under their flight suits as part of their survival gear in the event they were shot down. Always two sided, chart NL 52 "Harbin" covers a region of Russia and Machuria west of Sapporo, Japan. The other side is NL 53 "Spassk-Dal'Niy", covering the adjacent region to the West extending to beyond Harbin. Both on a 1:1,100,000 scale.
