An interesting and very uncommon sheet with the world revealed by Flora and Janus in an inset above a map of the coast of Italy. The title is suspended between portraits of Amerigo Vespucci and Christopher Columbus, and other allegorical figures embellish the sheet. The world map is centered on the Atlantic Ocean. Joannes Stradanus was a Flemish artist, who lived in Italy and sent his drawings to Antwerp for publication. His first major series of drawings were titled Americae Retectio and contained only four plates. Small area of discoloration and a tiny hole filled from verso in lower left.
