This map was prepared by the Office of the Quarter Master General. It shows all the military departments and forts throughout the United States. The most interesting feature is a line showing the extreme line of outposts in 1845, which can then be compared with expansion in the west including the routes of military expeditions.

Toned along folds, backed with Japanese tissue. Closely trimmed at binding edge, as issued.
