A large hemisphere map filled with detail. D'Anville, geographer to King Louis XIV, was among the most respected cartographers of his day. He was an early advocate of leaving blank spaces on map where knowledge was insufficient. Here Australia is only partially mapped with Terre de Diemen shown as possibly attached to the mainland. New Guinea is also incomplete with several notations concerning the recent discoveries there. Engraved by Guillaume N. Delahaye.
