Splendid city plan of St. Petersburg depicting the development of the grand city with its fortifications and palaces. An inset map at top left shows the strategic position of the city and its vicinity, and another inset provides a view of the Crohn Schlot, a huge battery built in 1704 to protect the city. The map is dedicated to Czar Peter the Great with the huge (uncolored) title cartouche featuring a portrait of the czar surrounded by the Muses and allegorical representations of the classical sciences.
