Charming miniature map of Madagascar (Portuguese name St. Laurence). North is oriented to the left and the Linea Aequinoctial cut across the southern tip of the island. Benjamin Wright was an English engraver who worked in England, Amsterdam and Italy. While in Amsterdam he engraved many of the plates for the second edition of Cornelis Claesz' Caert Thresoor. The plates were also used to illustrate a geographical treatise by Petrus Bertius.
