A vellum leaf from Peter Lombard's famous theological handbook. This book summarized the important doctrines of the church fathers and became the standard theological textbook of the medieval era. Peter Lombard was a student in Bologna, Rheims and finally Paris, where he was briefly the bishop just prior to his death in 1160. This leaf is neatly written in brown ink with red rubrics and three initials executed with delicate blue and red penwork. It also has many contemporary notes in the margin, probably those of a student.
