Formis Lucae Staubii, Sumptibus Ioannis Wagneri, Bibliopolae, Anno Christi M. DC XLVII. This is the original edition detailing the adventures of the Spanish Pedro Gobeo da Victoria as related by the German Jesuit Bissel (1601-1682). The work contains information on the activity of Jesuits in America and the region of the Amazon. With nicely engraved map of the new world (4.7 x 2.8") with stipple in oceans. California is a peninsula. Extends to show Japan, the Philippines, New Guinea, the Solomons and a large part of Terra Australis Incognita. Appears to be complete less the engraved frontis by Guillaume Kilian. Title page, map, Auctor, 480 pp. + additional pages front and back. Later blue cloth binding with owner's bookplate. A similar example with fancy binding and frontis brought about $1,100 in June in a European auction.
