A beautiful, small map on a full sheet (8.7x12.7") of German text published in the eighth part of de Bry's Grand Voyages, which describes the travels of Sir Francis Drake, Cavendish and Sir Walter Raleigh. Virginia is noted, indicating the account of Drake's visit to Roanoke Island in 1586. The Atlantic is shown in the Medina style. Includes parts of America, Africa and Europe with a lovely compass rose at the center. This map was taken directly from Claesz's map of 1598, which is virtually identical. A remarkable example of this map with a very crisp and precise impression.

Rest of the sheet is very good with even toning and a few light spots.
