An account of Louisiana, prepared by the Foreign Ministers of Louis XVI. Vergennes served as the French Minister from 1774 until his death in 1787, and played a vital part in bringing France into the American Revolution on the American side. He prepared this memoir on the history and situation of Louisiana for Louis XVI sometime during his term as minister, although it was not published until 1802, when the temporary recovery of Louisiana by France awakened interest in the area. 315 pp. Hardbound, green leather over boards, with original spine label. Marbled paper endpapers.
