Nice world map on Mercator's Projection with a surprising amount of detail. Similar to the key map of La Perouse's explorations showing his significant world voyage in 1785 - 88. After exploring a portion of North America's northwest coast, the ill-fated expedition reached Australia in January, 1788. Leaving just a month later, they were never heard from again. While in Australia La Pérouse gave the journals and charts to the Russians or British prior to continuing his voyage. These items eventually arrived in Paris where his important observations and maps were first published in 1797 in four volumes and an atlas.
