Moritz Rugendas (1802-1858) traveled extensively throughout Brazil on two extended expeditions. A trained painter, these lithographed examples of his art are considered important documentation in the study of Brazilian life at the beginning of the nineteenth century. This remarkable work was published in German and French. Two plantation slaves are shown. Very handsome rendering of male and female with shovels for planting. Rare.
