Large copperplate engraving originally appearing in Bidloo's superb atlas, one of the most striking and innovative anatomical atlases ever published. Bidloo's Anatomia with its innovative engravings by Lairesse was among the first to portray human anatomy in a naturalistic manner from actual dissections. This plate features the dissected arm. Such realistic detail was not seen again in anatomical illustration until the beginning of the nineteenth century. It is from the second edition issued in English by Thomas Cowper from the plates he purchased from Bidloo.
