Nice map of most of the United States ending at the Rocky Mountains. Missouri, Arkansas and Louisiana are the only states west of the Mississippi River. The rest of the west is labeled as Missouri Territory with a notation concerning the vegetation and numerous herds of buffaloes and wild horses and roving tribes of Indians. The area that would become Iowa Territory is colored differently, but unnamed. Wisconsin is labeled District of Huron Attached to Michigan. Sioux, Mandan, Osage, and Ozark Districts are also named. Texas is a part of Mexico. Table at right shows the distances from Washington DC to the major cities.
