Very nice group of wood engravings published in weekly newspapers. The nineteenth century brought about an unprecedented public demand for information and images of the growing nation. The weekly newspapers responded by sending correspondents and illustrators into the field in record numbers. The images they produced capture a vibrant period in American history. Includes views of St. Louis (3 different), Memphis, Fargo, Cincinnati, Milwaukee, Dubuque, Cairo, Salt Lake City, Charleston S.C. and Chicago. All full-page except one, all uncolored except two. Sizes vary slightly.
