Airmail letter sheet, typed on front and back. Signed in pen by Tooley, dated October 19th , 1967. Personal letter from R.V. Tooley to Miss Rosejeanne Slifer, former department head for antiquarian booksellers B. Altman and Co. in New York City. Tooley dedicated his important book "The Mapping of America" to Slifer. Very interesting content describing his travels in working on "Landmarks of Mapping", which was published in 1968 by Time-Life books. Unhappy with the project, he states "they want my name on the work which I am not keen to have as, wording is not even mine." This letter was written when Mr. Tooley was working for Francis Edwards Ltd., and is on their stationary. He mentions the other gentlemen who work there, his health, family and the how pleased he is at the growth of the Map Collector's Circle. A very interesting look, both professionally and personally, into Mr. Tooley's life. A find for any serious map collector.
