Doctor Elijah White was a Presbyterian missionary who traveled to Oregon in 1836-45. The book is subtitled: "With incidents of two sea voyages via Sandwich Islands around Cape Horn; Containing also a brief history of the missions and settlement of the country - origin of the provisional government - number and customs of the Indians - incidents witnessed while traversing and residing in the territory - description of the soil, production, and climate." Second and revised edition with the addition of passages from Fremont's Narrative, which extended the text from 399 to 430 pp. Octavo, full calf with raised bands and gilt titles.
