A very decorative map of southern Africa with an ornamental title cartouche within map. The cartographical content is moderately accurate. Hottentot tribes are mentions and Fort Hollandois is shown at the Cape. The western coast is labeled Cote Deserte and the kingdom on Monomotapa is prominently colored. The map is flanked by two columns of French text and surrounded by a wide rococo-style frame with students studying geography and cartographic instruments. The map (10 x 9") and decorative border were printed from two separate plates and assembled with the text for this beautiful atlas. Map fully colored, cartouche and decorative border uncolored.
