Pair of fine steel engraved views. First (8.2 x 7") is a quaint view of the small town with an American flag juxtaposed against the Spanish style architecture. A horse and cart cross a stone bridge over the San Antonio River in the foreground. Issued in Report on the United States and Mexican Boundary Survey by William H. Emory. Second (6.2 x 5") is a view of the German settlement with a lone horseman in the foreground. This view is from one of the publications of city views issued by Herrman Meyer, a German publisher, first issued in parts and then in two volumes. Texas was of intense interest to Germans at this time and these publications contributed to the large German immigration into the west in the latter part of the nineteenth century.
