An important set of eight lithographed sketches from the first organized expedition into the Colorado River region - the Ives expedition. This U. S. Government-sponsored expedition of 1857-1858, and the resulting report, contained some of the first images of the Southwest. The titles all begin with "Panoramic View No." and includes 1-8. Shortened titles: "Chemehuevis Valley from monument mountains to Mojave Mountains", "Mojave Valley - From Mojave Mountains to Pyramid Canon", "Cottonwood Valley - From Pyramid Canon to Painted Canon", "Davis Valley - From painted Canon to Black Canon", "Big Canon From Near Hualpais Spring", "Big Canon Near Diamond River", "Big Canon From Colorado Plateau" and "Canon of Cataract Creek and Flax River."
