A very fine, large printed vellum leaf from an Italian missal. The text is printed in black and red and one illuminated initial is beautifully hand-painted with two angels supporting a column representing the initial 'I'. The missal is a service book containing the texts necessary for the performance of the Catholic mass (including chants, prayers, and readings), together with ceremonial directions. The parts of the Bible that are to be read during mass are noted in the margins. The leaf is foliated [425] but not paginated. The text includes many parts of psalms and readings of the gospel of St. Luke and Esdre.
