A fine decorative map of the Americas. North America is based on the Sanson-Jaillot model with California as an Island. Button's Bay and the Great Lakes are both left open-end in the west, leaving open the possibility of a Northwest Passage. An unusual feature of the map is the pair of large cartouches, one for each continent, each surrounded by figures including natives, animals, European explorers, and a river god.

References: McLaughlin #120; Tooley (America) #56.

Condition: B

Great original color with some mild oxidation of green (with small area reinforced on verso with tissue). Couple of unobtrusive spots in map. Two wormholes in blank margins.

Estimate: $1,900 - $2,200

Sold for: $1,700
