This splendid map is Blaeu's second map of eastern Brazil. Detail is confined to the coastlines and the map is oriented with north to the right of the chart. The coastline is very detailed, while inland the cartography is highly conjectural and mostly empty. The map reflects the short-lived Dutch influence in Brazil through the Netherlands West-India Company. It is richly embellished with the title cartouche featuring the Dutch coat of arms, the distance scale with three putti, two compass roses, three galleons and rhumb lines. Latin text on verso.

Lovely original color with very faint toning. Professional repair of a few tiny edge tears, none close to map.
