Fine view of the Portuguese colony of Macao from a seaward prospective. Originally published to accompany the account of Johann Nieuhoff's Dutch embassy to China, this is a later re-engraving by Pieter van der Aa. The scene illustrates the colony under attack by a Dutch fleet. Ships are shown in the harbor firing at the town, with a hillside fort in background responding.
