This is a very scarce facsimile reproduction of Mitchell's famous map of 1846. It was published by the North Pacific Bank Note Co., in Tacoma WA in 1925. This was one of the most important maps of the American west issued during that period. The new state of Texas is shown in its 'stovepipe' configuration. A table details the various emigrant routes from Missouri to Oregon. Folding into the "Accompaniment to Mitchell's new map of Texas, Oregon and California." A preface explains that the map from which it was reproduced originally belonged to William Gougar who used it as a guide while crossing the plains from St. Louis, via the Oregon Trail, to the California Gold Fields. Simulated brown leather covers with gold title on front.
