Complete issue of The New York Herald, April 26, 1862. Front page is dedicated to a large map titled "Terrific Bombardment of Fort Jackson, on the Mississippi - The Rebel Defenses at New Orleans" (17.3" x 9.3") with detail from the mouth of the Mississippi up the river to New Orleans and continuing to Camp Moore and Tangapahoa. Filled with information on troops, batteries, railroads, ships, and much more. Plus an inside page map titled "The Engagement at Needham's Cut Off" (4.7" x 5.6"), subtitled "The Positions of the Union and Rebel Fleets Before and During the First Naval Engagement in the Western Waters." Terrific pair of Civil War maps plus numerous articles reporting on the war. These war period papers were printed on cotton rag paper and therefore do no deteriorate like later issues.
