Two fine copper engraved charts focusing on Newfoundland - here called Terre-Neuve. All dated 1744, but published in 1756 in the German edition by Arkstee & Merkus.
1) "Karte von dem Eylande Terre-Neuve entworsen...", 14.2" x 11.2". Bellin's map of Newfoundland with the coast of the main land at upper left. Blank interior, but good detail along coastlines with scores of place names. Two distance scales. Shoals and fishing banks indicated through full stippling in sea.
2) "Karte von den Bayen, Rheeden und Hafen von Plaisance aus der Insel Terre Neuve", 11.2" x 7.6". Details the region around the fort on Newfoundland's southeast coast. Details Placentia Bay (here Bay von Plaisance), the nearby battery, much topographical information, soundings, etc. Compass rose with fleur-de-lis.
