Attractive map of the continent and the East Indies. The most interesting region of the map is the depiction of Japan and the Northeast coast of the continent. Japan is connected to a huge land mass to the north, which is named Terre d' Yeco, a Jesuit name for Hokkaido. To the west is Terre de la Compagnie (noted as being discovered by the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama). Witsen's icy cape is prominently shown to block travel into the Arctic regions. The pictorial cartouche features a royal procession.
