This is a reduced version of the younger Sanson's map of 1657. It shows the island of California with an indented northern coastline. The R. de Nort drains into the Gulf of California from a large interior lake in the country of Los Apaches. The two westernmost Great Lakes are left open-ended. Decorated with a bold title cartouche. This is a smaller edition of Sanson's quarto-sized map of America, published in Zacharias Chatelain's multi-volume La Science des Personnes de Cour....
