Four joined sheets make up this map of the United States and provide an excellent view, particularly of the American West with large western territories; Missouri, Minnesota, Indian, Washington, Oregon, Utah, and New Mexico. The boundary with British Columbia is correct and the boundary with Mexico reflects the Gadsden Purchase. A key shows the states and territories, with number of counties; their size and populations as of 1850. Inset map of the Galapagos Islands. Published by Carl Flemming. This is a lithograph map and an early example of the combination of early printed color in the oceans and outline color applied by hand to distinguish the borders.
