An interesting pair of hemisphere maps with diagrams below. These were included in Scherer's geographical compendium that emphasized the Catholic hierarchy and spread of Jesuit missions throughout the world. The map of the Americas includes the large island of California with an unusual peninsula on its northwest coast. The map of the Eastern Hemisphere includes a partially formed Australia and oddly formed Japan. In Africa the Nile rises from twin lakes south of the equator, one of which (Zembre) is also the source of the Congo and Niger Rivers. Only major geographical features and cities depicted.
