A remarkable atlas of Egypt containing 48 individual copper engraved maps. This monumental mapping effort was ordered by Napoleon Bonaparte. The map is so accurate it was used by Allied troops in WWII. The maps together make up a huge 12 meter by 4 meter map! Complete with title page, list of maps, 50 sheets total, never bound. Map is comprised of 48 copper engraved sheets with the map on 47 sheets and the first sheet a general map that includes an extensive legend in both French and Arabic script. Each map is precisely engraved and filled with information including many place names in Arabic script. Each map is on a sheet of thick paper that measures 43" x 28", with very wide margins. An amazing body of work. Title page is toned and soiled. Overall very good condition for a loose set of maps of this size.
