This precisely engraved German map is a very early thematic map showing the differences in time throughout the world. The divisions of latitude are carefully demarcated in scales on the side borders and twenty-four time zones marked across the top. Geographically the map is centered on the Pacific Ocean and the narrow Fretum Anian that separates Asia and America. The huge Terra Australis Incognita dominates the bottom of the map. Delicately adorned with tiny ships and sea monsters and surrounded in a decorative border.
