This superb, rare title page is from a folio edition of King James' version of the Holy Bible printed by John Field and beautifully illustrated by John Ogilby. The architectural-style composition depicts King Solomon on his throne with lions at his feet, and surrounded by his subjects. Above the title is King David with the figures of Moses and Abraham on the left and Aaron and David on the right. The depiction of Moses shows him with horns, which resulted from a mistranslation of the Hebrew word qaran. Titles are underlined and borders added in contemporary red ink. Included is a bible text leaf from the Biblia Sacra Graece, Latine & Germanice printed by Jacobus Lucius Juni in Hamburg, 1596.
