This beautiful and moving engraving is a colossal work of art, as well as an important historical record. The statue of Liberty dominates with the river with New Jersey and Manhattan in the background, and an excellent depiction of the Brooklyn Bridge across the water. Hundreds of people are gathered around the base of the statue. Important buildings on the horizon are named in a band above the neatline. The statue was unveiled and dedicated on October 28, 1886, by President Grover Cleveland and other dignitaries. The huge sculpture by Auguste Bartholdi's, originally titled Liberty Enlightening the World, was designated the Statue of Liberty National Monument in 1924. Published in the October 30, 1886 Supplement to Harper's Weekly. A remarkable and rarely seen wood engraving, particularly in this condition.
