A very detailed chart of the isthmus as surveyed under the direction of Maj. Perault with the assistance of three infantry and artillery officers. Locates Scusset Harbor, Plymouth neck, the road to Plymouth, Herring Pond, the road to Wareham, the road to Sandwich Village, Town Neck, Cohassett Narrows, Eggwarm Pt., plus the islands of Toby, Marshners, Hog, Onsett and others. A thin line indicates the proposed canal. Beneath the map is a tide table that is keyed to canal segments. This canal was eventually built, but not until 1914. Interestingly, the map is noted as being 'etched' by Lt. Farley, rather than engraved.
