This allegorical title page is from the Dutch edition of Kircher's famous Mundus Subterraneus (Subterranean World) published by Joannes Janssonius van Waasberge. The scene is arrayed around a statue of the great Diana of Ephesus as the goddess of nature with a mining scene in the background. A small cherub holds a portrait of the author in the foreground.
