This very rare map is from a revised copper plate originally published in the 1628 edition of the Atlas Minor published by Jan Jansson. The important map contained the first appearance of the discoveries relating to Ezo and the Kurils made by the Dutch explorer Vries. Korea is shown as a triangular shaped island. For the Atlas Soulage the title and scale were translated into French and the cartouche and compass rose were revised. The atlas was only issued once and there is only one known complete copy extant, in the University Library of Leiden.
