Two interesting copper engravings of the first attempts to launch air balloons. First (4.5 x 7.5") shows a row boat (complete with an oarsman) equipped with a sail and four balloons. It was published in the European Magazine by J. Sewell and is dated 1789. Second (3.7 x 6") shows an enthusiastic crowd gathered to see the launch of a balloon carrying an unfortunate group of farm animals. It was engraved by John Lodge, circa 1790.
