A large and important atlas complete with over 50 maps, most double-page. Most maps are thematic in nature including the Hitchcock "Geological Map of the United States." Swartz & Ehrenberg commend this atlas saying it was a "pioneering work [and] was the first atlas of analytical maps that showed the patterns of associations and it greatly influenced the development of thematic mapping in the Untied States." Folio, 3/4 leather, text, plus map plates. An important and desirable atlas that will benefit from rebinding.
