This fascinating frontispiece illustrates the various riches and industry of South America. The engraving focuses on the silver mining operations at Potosi, Bolivia with a stylized view of the mountain city and mines. In the foreground are scenes of trading and in the background are volcanoes and a flotilla of silver-laden galleons. Designed by Johannes Degler and beautifully engraved Joseph à Montaglegre of Nuremberg.
