A large and colorful chromolithographic map with terrific details throughout. A table at lower left provides an explanatory key to the colors used to indicate nine distinct geological formations. The carefully drawn map shows good geographical detail as well as the remarkable geological information. A legend shows icons to identify railroads, military and wagon roads, canals, army arsenals and forts, etc. Lithographed by Julius Bien. This is the first edition of this colorful and desirable map.

Issued folding, now flat with archival tape reinforcing all folds. Very nice color and impression. Several split fold lines have been nicely closed on verso with archival tape, else very good.
