First (16.5 x 12") details the coastline, bottom type and soundings of San Clemente Island. The large and fully colored inset is a sea view of the island with a sailing ship anchored offshore. The second uncolored map details the coastline from San Buena Ventura to Point Hueneme and to Point Magu, with soundings and bottom type noted. Offshore are sketches of Santa Cruz and Anacapa Islands. An inset, "Sub-Sketch of Point Hueneme," shows the proposed site for a lighthouse. Both maps are by the Hydrographic Party under the command of Lieut. James Alden, USN.
