Superb map of part of Andalusia centered on Sevilla. When Abraham Ortelius first published the Theatrum in 1570, he devoted just one map to Spain. He then acquired Geronimo de Chaves' map of Andalusia and this example is from the first edition to include that map. It is finely engraved to depict the topography and features a sea battle and several monsters off Cadiz. Each corner is adorned with a cartouche or compass rose.
