Exquisite and scarce large-scale map flanked by eighteen meticulously engraved vignettes of people, animals, plants and scenes representing the commerce and industry in the regions. The map shows impressive detail of caravan routes, colonial possessions, mines, forts and known topography. The Monts de la Lune, or the Mountains of the Moon are shown. These fabled and mysterious mountains are the Ruwenzori mountain range, whose unusual equatorial snows feed the sources of the Nile.
