This is one of the most decorative plates from the Atlas Historique. The folio sheet includes a map (8 x 4") detailing the island of Madagascar with north oriented to the right. French text below the map discusses the land and its people. The map is surrounded by eleven beautiful and elegantly engraved views of the people and their customs in the carte-a-figures style.

Crisp and early impression with wide margins. Slight toning in a line near middle, else fine.
