This unusual map is from a rare 16th century Italian atlas of island maps. This map of Iceland was prepared prior to any actual surveys were completed and reflects very sketchy knowledge of the island. Delightful depictions of topography, volcanoes, villages and elaborate cities. Several icebergs are shown floating off the coast.
