Rare, early edition of this large map illustrating the speculative cartography of the Pacific coast of North America. A huge Sea of the West dominates the Northwest coast and the large inset map illustrates the theories of Joseph Delisle and Philippe Buache concerning a Northwest Passage. In the Pacific, the tracts of early explorers are shown, including Quiros, Mendana, Le Maire, Magellan, and Antoine. This is one of the scarcest of all maps illustrating the Sea of the West and this edition has not been on the market that we can locate.
